How many princesses are willing to fight for their own rights or freedom even though if it means leaving behind the luxurious life that they used to have? Well, Princess Meng Li Hua from China in the movie of Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa is certainly brave enough to do so.

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa also known as The Malay
Chronicles: Bloodlines is an adventure film that is mainly casted by Stephen
Rahman Hughes as Merong Mahawangsa, Gavin Stenhouse as Marcus Carpenius(Prince
of Rome) and Jing Lusi as Princess Meng Li Hua.
Other than showing the historic and courageous moments of a Malay
warrior and a Rome prince sailing to meet his future
Princess, the daring and
bold character of the princess of China, Princess Meng Li Hua has definitely gained
my attention from the start in this movie.

Instead of living a luxurious life after marrying the Prince
of Rome, Marcus Carpenius, Princess Meng Li Hua chose to run away from her marriage
of convenience with the prince to start her new journey as
a normal citizen.
Unlike any other princess, Princess Meng has her very own independent opinion
of how she should be the one that has the right to decide on what’s best for
her. Besides that, Princess Meng also showed her fearless manner to the main
villain character, Kesum, casted by Rahim Razali, that she does not just bow
down to his cruelty. She braved herself in a scene whereby she seduced Kesum
and quietly take away his protection pendant so the she will have to chance to
kill him and set both she and her maid/sister, Ying Ying free.
The strong personality of Princess Meng Li Hua is well
portrayed in the movie by Jing Lusi, which I
think it’s an inspiration for all
women out there. Besides my favoritism of Princess Meng’s character, Hikayat
Merong Mahawangsa also proves that Malaysian movie has undoubtedly improved
from the past.
Ending my review with the posters of the main actors, till
next time!
